Your decision-making style is...

The Perfectionist

But wait! This doesn’t have to be a bad thing. You can get unstuck and make your style work for you.

You have a decision superpower!

You hold yourself to a high standard — and that shows up everywhere, including your decisions.

You want to make the right choice, not just a good-enough one. And that pressure can turn even small decisions into exhausting events.

So instead of feeling confident, you second-guess, review, and tweak. You replay past choices and imagine future regrets. It’s not because you’re weak or indecisive — it’s because your brain equates “mistake” with “failure,” and it would rather spin forever than risk getting it wrong.

The danger? All that effort doesn’t guarantee a perfect result — but it does guarantee more stress and self-doubt. Perfectionism promises control but usually delivers exhaustion.

But perfectionism isn’t the whole story. You can learn to spot when “good enough” is more than enough — and start trusting yourself to move forward without regret.

Imagine the freedom of making solid choices and still having energy left over for the rest of your life. That’s what’s possible for you.

Make the most of your style

When you’re not perfectioning, you’re making thoughtful, deliberate choices.

You investigate thoroughly and go above and beyond to make things the best they can be.

You’re basically a superhero.

And you can stay that way!

When you’re at your best, your Decision Style is really Employing High Standards.

As long as you use it as a strength and not an obstacle, this can be the reason you feel great about your choices — and the results they create.

To make the most of it, notice when your high standards get you what you want.

You’ll be less inclined to let perfectionism run the show when you’re clear on how effective it really is.

When your extra efforts pay off and you’re happy with the process, acknowledge what worked.

And when you notice your high standards weren’t exactly necessary, be honest about that too.

The key to making the most of your style is to take charge of it.

Your Solution

USE THE PERFECTION SCALE

To make the most of your skill, start thinking of it that way.

A skill you can apply where you choose to.

The next time you have a choice to make, use the Perfection Scale.

Literally ask yourself “How perfect do I want this to be, on a scale from 1-10?”

And start making 10/10 the exception — not the rule.

It can take some time to get comfortable with the idea of aiming for 7 out of 10 (what is that, a B-? Ick.)

But you want to be able to give an A+ effort on purpose, when something deserves it.

When that’s the default for every single decision, it’s exhausting and unnecessary.

The next time you’re booking a vacation, say, and perfection is slowing you down — use the Perfection Scale.

If the hotel decision comes in at 9/10 but the rental car is a 2.5, congrats — you get to spend way less time and energy on that rental car now.

Once you let go of the assumption that everything that can be a 10 “should” be a 10 — you’ll feel empowered to choose when you’re happy for something to be less than perfect.

Decisions get easier when you trust yourself and take charge of your process.
